Morning Meditation - You and God are a dynamic duo

"To question God's love for us is not surprising. Most of us know that we have 'missed the mark' of God's plan and purpose for our lives. What is hard to believe is that a Holy God would care about us, love us, and choose us to play a part in the divine plan. That does sound crazy given our botched resume."

Lee McGlone, The Minister's Manual, p.74

It is hard to believe that as defective and imperfect as we believe ourselves to be that we could ever imagine that God could love us. It is not so much that we don't believe in God but that we can't imagine a God that could or would believe in us.

And this belief in our inherent defectiveness and imperfection begins when we are first scolded and disciplined as toddlers. We say "No" to mommy and daddy which is our original sin, to defy control and authority, and we are "corrected" and we learn that there is something wrong with us. This lesson lasts a life time and causes us all kinds of trouble.

What gets us into trouble is our willfulness and Jesus tells us when he teaches us to pray that it is willingness that is required - :thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."

So if we are able to "surrender" as people learn in Alcoholic Anonymous to our Higher Power, whatever we conceive our Higher Power to be our lives start to go better.

The trick is to bring our will into alignment with God's will for us. If can do that, we become a dynamic duo for St. Paul says, "If God is with you, who can be against you?"

Indeed, you and God are a dynamic duo and you begin to realize that God, the Universe, the Spirit of Life really does love you and you are meant to be here. Our Universalist faith tells us that in the end everything will be Okay.
