UUA President, Peter Morales, condemns Arizona's anti-immigrant law.

Rev. Peter Morales, President of the Unitarian Universalist Association, condemned the Arizona anti-immigrant law on April 23, 2010.

Good for him.

Good for the Unitarian Universalist Association.

"What do we want the church to do? We ask for its presence with us, beside us, as Christ among us. We ask the church to sacrifice with the people for social change, for justice and for love of brother and sister. We don't ask for words. We ask for deeds. We don't ask for paternalism. We ask for servanthood."
- César Chávez

Now, will Unitarian Universalists put their money where their mouth is? Will their actions speaker louder than their words?

We shall see.

    Good question.

We shall see indeed. . .

  2. Why the condemnation?

    Have you read the law?
When we stop working the seven principles:
Specifically: "A free and responsible search for truth and meaning" have we stepped away from our faith?

    Have you read the law?

AZ 1070, that is the Immigration law, enacted to protect citizens. Known as a second title:
"Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act".

Enacted to help protect Arizona Citizens from all Foreign Gangs, Drug Lords, violent criminals, and repeat offenders:

    Read Section 3:
"A VIOLATION OF THIS SECTION IS A CLASS 1 MISDEMEANOR, EXCEPT THAT A VIOLATION OF THIS SECTION IS:
"A CLASS 3 FELONY IF THE PERSON VIOLATES THIS SECTION WHILE IN POSSESSION OF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
    (a) A DANGEROUS DRUG AS DEFINED IN SECTION 13-3401.
    (b) PRECURSOR CHEMICALS THAT ARE USED IN THE MANUFACTURING OF METHAMPHETAMINE IN VIOLATION OF SECTION 13-3404.01.
    (c) A DEADLY WEAPON OR A DANGEROUS INSTRUMENT, AS DEFINED IN SECTION 13-105.
    (d) PROPERTY THAT IS USED FOR THE PURPOSE OF COMMITTING AN ACT OF TERRORISM AS PRESCRIBED IN SECTION 13-2308.01. "

Would you not want Law Enforcement to interceed when a terrorist, drug runner, murderer, or worse is enterring your neighbourhood literally by the thousands every year?

In concluding the law as written the State has firmly stated in Section 11 C:
"This act shall be implemented in a manner consistent with federal laws regulating immigration, protecting the civil rights of all persons and respecting the privileges and immunities of United States citizens."

If this is allowing local state LEO's to enforce FEDERAL LAW already on the books... Then why all the fuss?

    No one reads the law.

    Very SAD
