"11. Prayer is the medium of miracles. It is a means of a communication of the created with the Creator. Through prayer love is received and through miracles love is expressed."
Do UUs pray?
Indeed they do. I do, and I consider myself a participant in the Unitarian Universalist faith.
The course says that prayer is the medium of miracles. What might that mean?
Prayer is a form of thinking, an emotional expression, and sometimes bodily postures, but the form is not important; what is important is the content, and the content is the loving communication between the created and the Creator.
Brother David Stendl-Rast says the best form of prayer is the expression of gratitude. Gratitude requires a recognition that we have been blessed. Rev Galen Guengerich. has spoken and written that the distinctive facet of Unitarian Universalism faith is that it is a faith of gratitude.
Gratitude, while not love, is the awareness that we are loved and gratitude is an appropriate response to miracles.
