So many I couldn't name them all, surely. But of course, if I were to try, I would start with my parents and grandparents, and then the priest in my parish as a kid growing up, my teachers, and sports coaches, and music teachers, and so it goes...............
If we are to focus on our UU forebearers, I think Theodore Parker is one of the best, and the transcendentalists, and I love John Murray's vision of God's unconditional love for us and his vision of Universal salvation.
How about Viola Liuzzo? I will never forget her witness during the Civil Rights days of the 60s. She died living out her UU values. And then there was James Reeb who did the same. We stand on their shoulders. They deeply believed in the inherent right and dignity of all people and were willing to put their bodies on the line for people oppressed and subjugated by Jim Crow laws.
