Money or Bliss?

Scott Tayler at First Unitarian in Rochester, NY gave a wonderful sermon on January 30, 2011, with a long title, "Being Honest About Sick Professions and The Really Important Question". You can access it by clicking here.

Are you vitally engaged in your work?

Is your heart in it?

What would break your heart?

Listen. You will will get a different take on the idea that we all are too busy, overextended, work too hard, need to cut back, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Joseph Campbell, the mythologist, said years ago, "If you wonder if you should follow the money or your bliss, choose your bliss."

As a psychotherapist, when I ask my clients "would you rather have a job that paid you $50,000.00 per year and hated or $30,000.00 per year and loved, which job would you rather have?"

80%, that's 8/10 say they want the $50,000.00 job. My heart sinks. As a society our values are very perverted. No wonder we are miserable compared to other countries.

What kind of soul murder is it to be in a 40 or 50 hour a week job when your hearts not in it? Is there anything more soul deadening.

Listen to Rev. Tayler. It's well worth the 20 minutes.
