UU A Way Of Life 12/13/20 Weekly review

 12/13/20 Weekly review

A Course In Miracles lessons - We have continued to post daily comments on ACIM lessons. This week we have commented on lessons #107 - #111. We ended the week with a couple of days of review lessons.
The purpose in commenting on these lessons daily is to facilitate a deeper interior spiritual life for people in Twelve Step programs, and for those earnestly trying to develop a deeper spiritual life in the Unitarian Universalist tradition.
One of the concerns is that UUs while they attempt to create a covenantal church often fall short by focusing on social justice concerns and psychobabble. The groups and congregations nurturing of an interior spiritual life are difficult to find in the UU tradition. The mission of UU A Way Of Life is to attempt to nurture the sense of holiness and to sanctify the world.

Good news - This week there has been an attempt to bring back a focus on good things that are happening in the world of the ego. The media focuses on topics that can be sensationalized because they are emotionally arousing and engage in “clicks” which can then be aggregated and sold to advertisers.
Good news does not sell as well because it is less often alarming and therefore does not lend itself to the function of “click bait.” However, there are a smaller group of people who are interested in celebrating goodness. It is in recognizing and celebrating goodness that this goodness is extended and hopefully emulated.
This week we recognized Chris Krebs, CISA director, who stood up for truth and was fired by President Trump. We also recognized President-elect, Joseph Biden for his anti-semetic stand, and Senator Pat Toomey from Pennsylvania who, unlike his Republican colleagues, stood up against disinformation for truth. In recognizing these three people it is good to remind ourselves that the free and responsible search for truth and meaning is labeled as traitorous by the status quo who then attempt to punish those who stood on the side of truth. All the more reason that people who take principled stands are acknowledged and celebrated.

Humor - There also was a continued effort this week at humor by referencing Andy Borowitz’s satirical article on Trump pardons. The saying is “You either laugh or cry” and at this time in American history there is a great deal to cry and grieve over. While corruption and wrongdoing should be taken seriously, having done that, sometimes a good laugh can lighten the load.

Book discussions - Our discussions of the two books under study, The Spiritual Child and Scripture Unbound have been absent this week. We plan on returning to them this coming week.

Community support - The support for UU A Way Of Life has fallen below 100 views a day for reasons that can only be guessed at. The first reason may be that UUAWOL isn’t meeting the needs of its readers. The second reason is that the focus on spiritual topics rather than click bait doesn’t appeal to as broad an audience. A third reason might be that the quality of the writing isn’t as appealing enough to attract and maintain an audience.
There may be other reasons as well and we’d like to get feedback from readers by leaving comments or writing to davidgmarkham@gmail.com.

Plans for this coming week and month - Research is being done on the possibility of doing more podcasts and perhaps a video or two a month.

Weekly report from the publisher, 06/10/18

It has been quite a week here on UU A Way Of Life.

We remembered Fred Rogers and his message that we all our neighbors. In the time of Trump many of us have forgotten or never realized that we are all in this thing called "Life" together and none of us gets our alive.

Camille Dunghy, in her interview in the Sun Magazine, describes how she and her husband decided to consciously and intentionally bring a child into this world as a sign of their faith and hope in our collective future. Being a victim of racism her whole life, Dr. Dunghy's decision and action is very admirable and inspiring for those of us privileged to witness them.

The work of the non profit, For Freedoms, is also inspiring and needs our help in joining artistic work and creation with the betterment of society. I hope you will make a small contribution of only $10.00.

Many of the articles this week describe the journey on the spiritual path the key to which is  identifying a Master. There aren't many Masters, if any, in the history of Unitarian Universalism and that's a shame. No one, with the exception possibly of the transcendentalists, have been able to build a spirit life on the basis of the Perennial philosophy which Unitarian Universalism espouses. Osho says that the function of the Master is to help us remember our Divine nature, and to validate it when we find it.

People who leave the path of the ego and embark on the path of the spirit appear crazy to the secular world if not threatening, Ridicule, ostracism, and assassination are the risks the spiritual seeker takes on.

Please make a donation to support the work of UU A Way of Life. You can do it through PayPal in the right hand column. Jesus said, "Give unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." UU A Way Of Life is God's work and your support, emotional, moral, psychological, and financial is appreciated. The work here is to remind people of their Divine nature which is their natural inheritance.

UUAWOL weekly report 02/18/18 - 02/24/18

With the change of format of UUAWOL the views have dropped off dramatically and have settled around 75 per day.

It is the intention of UUAWOL staff to continue with a daily article about the spiritual life, and weekly articles about the interior spiritual life, Lent, prophetic voices and events, and a new topic of laughter.

The long term intention is to continue to develop a glossary of terms for the Spiritual Life, and a UU theology which is useful to people in thinking about their spiritual lives.

UUAWOL appreciates the core group of readers who read this publication, shares it with others, and leaves comments.

UUAWOL weekly report for week of 02/04/18 - 02/10/18

Weekly report from UUAWOL 02/04/18 – 02/10/18

Stats
1.    During the week of 02/04/18 – 02/10/18  UUAWOL received 1995 views up 889 from the previous week.
2.    The heaviest viewing day was Friday, 02/09/18 with 1,005 views.
3.    The average number of views per day was 291 while the average number of views the preceding week was 285.
4.    The weekly statistics manifest extreme swings with only 48 views on Monday, 02/5/18, and 611 on Wednesday, 02/07/18, and 1,005 on Friday, 02/09/18. It is not clear why such wide changes in views occur. One hypothesis is that some posts get posted to social media or other web sites which drive up the views on that day for a particular post.

Highlights
1.    A new column has been introduced which provides material for an online course on the Interior Spiritual Life. It is intended that this course will run 16 weeks.
2.    There was an introduction to a new column on Lent which will begin on Ash Wednesday, 02/14/18.
3.    One of the main concepts of the week was the awareness that a person has a choice that can be made: to continue on the path of the ego or enter onto the path of the spirit. Most people are not aware that they even have a choice until their mid 40s and after.

Plans - Short term
1.    Continue with a daily post about the spiritual life.
2.    Continue with posts from the course on the Interior Spiritual Life 101.
3.    Begin a series of reflections on the meaning of Lent.

Plans - long term
1.    Build a model of UU theology
2.    Create a dictionary of UU terms
3.    Further develop an articulation of the values that comprise a good life.
4.    Describe and encourage deliberate practice of an interior spiritual life.

UUAWOL weekly report for week of 01/28/18

Weekly report from UUAWOL 01/28/18 – 02/03/18

Stats
1.    During the week of 01/28/18 – 012/03/18  UUAWOL received 1995 views up 889 from the previous week.
2.    The heaviest viewing day was Thursday, 02/01/18 with 941 views.
3.    The average number of views per day was 285 while the average number of views the preceding week was 158.

Highlights
1.    The statistics reporting views above are very misleading. There were 635 views on Tuesday probably because of the Michael Moore video on the Women’s march the previous Saturday. Viewers accessed this page because of an interest in Michael Moore not Unitarian Universalism. The same thing happened on Thursday with 941 views of the video about the net neutrality whopper at Burger King. This very large viewing days probably had nothing to do with Unitarian Universalism.
2.    Since eliminating the columns on Question of The Day, and In Case You Were Wondering, views have dropped, but they were dropping already so it is hard to know the impact of their discontinuation. It is intended that the UU A Way Of Life blog be for people looking for stimulation for the serious study of UU theology and not just entertainment. UUAWOL is willing to sacrifice quantity for quality.

Plans - Short term
While the columns on Question of the Day, and In Case You Were Wondering were discontinued the columns on Prophetic Voices and Spiritual Practices will continue but not on a daily basis. Also, a new column on the Interior Spiritual Life has been added.

Plans - long term
1.    Build a model of UU theology
2.    Create a dictionary of UU terms
3.    Further develop an articulation of the values that comprise a good life.
4.    Describe and encourage deliberate practice of an interior spiritual life.

  2. The column on the map of the spiritual journey has become more challenging with the identification of a choice we each have to make: the path of the ego or the path of the spirit. Stats

  1. During the week of 12/24/17 - 12/30/17 UUAWOL received 1662 views up 416 from the previous week.
  2. The heaviest viewing day was Thursday, 12/28/17, with 354 views an all time high.
  3. The average number of views per day was 237 while the average number of views the preceding week was 178.
Highlights
  1. There was a movement from the series on Advent to Prophetic voices and events which will continue throughout the year.
  2. There was a continuation on the spirituality series with the goal of providing ways of thinking about one's spiritual life tied to the UU seven principles and the six sources.
  3. There was a continuation of the Question Of The Day series which was focused primarily on key terms and ideas in a theological dictionary which UUAWOL is developing.
  4. There was a continuation of the In Case You Were Wondering series to bring laughter and humor to the absurdity, incongruity, and paradox we encounter in the ego world. If we can overcome our guilt and shame we can experience more cheerfulness and with cheerfulness comes laughter and a sense of humor is an extremely important spiritual quality that can be intentionally cultivated.
  5. The prophetic voices and events column was deliberately refocused from prophetic women and men to prophetic voices and events. This change in focus was described in an article published on 12/27/17.
  6. Interest was expressed in a comment made on the article about Noah Worcester on 12/28/17 about starting the Worcester peace society by a person named Charlie. It seemed like an interesting idea but there were no further comments.
  7. There has been some preliminary discussion among UUAWOL followers about starting a Unitarian Universalist mission society to deliberately begin to proselytize, something which UUs have traditionally eschewed.
Plans - Short term
  1. Continue with the daily columns on Question of The Day, In Case You were Wondering, Prophetic voices and events, and the spiritual life.
